Today we are working on our visual for our political party. Please see my previous post if you lost the handout with the guiding questions. This will be completed in class today. We will leave the posters/visuals here so that you can present your ideas in a quick 2 min snapshot Tuesday. What did you learn about the political party you researched?
Please answer the questions on the handout I gave you. Bring what you need to work on the visual Monday! Our goal is to present Wednesday, October 2.
BLOG POST BONUS: If you were Prime Minister how would you help fight against Climate Change? Now take everything we learned in class, discussions and video of Greta Thunberg to tell me. You can write it or podcast (use audacity- see me for this) on your BLOG. Don’t forget to include an image and follow posting guidelines.
We started the class by reviewing last day homework on the fundamental principles of democracy. I showed a video of Greta Thunberg on Climate Change and connected it to our lesson. I read out a statement and had students vote by walking over to various ZONES (labelled agree, disagree, I agree, but and convince me). An example: Students should be able to use their mobile devices in class for research/Companies that pollute our air and water should suffer consequences.
Homework: Students have been paired up and assigned a political party. Please answer the following questions for next class. I encourage you to check on elections canada the candidate in your riding. Use the following websites to help with answering the questions on your handout(see below).
Self Check QUIZ: On Democracy and Elections. This will take place next week. More information given this week. It will consist of what we discussed in class with activities and presentations.
• What is the party’s slogan and/or key messages?
• Who is the party leader?
• What are the party’s major ideas? What actions are
they promising to take?
• Who seems to be the target audience of the party?
• What is the party’s vision for Canada?
Please start reading and working on the first module for Unit 2- Research Methods
Assignment: Students work in pairs, observe the behavior of others during lunchtime in the cafeteria. Some behaviors, such as seat selection or food choices. I strongly encourage students to come up with their own behavior to investigate. After separately recording observations, you will bring those notes back to class. DO NOT DISCUSS IT. In addition, you should maintain confidentiality, and explain what they are doing if asked. DUE THURSDAY AT THE START OF CLASS- bring your observation notes and I will give you time to discuss with partner:)

Today we discussed what a democracy is. We spent some time reviewing videos and working in groups to learn more about the foundations of democracy. Most of you completed the class organizer in class. If you did not have a chance to complete it all please do so for next class. We will be discussing some of those points next week! Have a great weekend. Blog Post due this week! Please have the paragraph posted by Thursday. I did mention Friday for all my Day 1 students but Friday is a Pro-D. I recommend that my Day 1 students post Thursday so you don’t forget! Great work everyone on a very productive Blog start up. So proud of all my grade 8’s.
